Description
It still blows my mind that Buddy Holly was only 22 when he died. I could barely count to 22 when I was 22. Let alone have basically invented The Beatles. Not really but kind of.
This is one of the first songs I learned to play on guitar. My parents got divorced when I was very young and my dad palmed off his old guitar on me. I think it was quicker and easier than going to the tip. For ages it just sat in the corner but then one day, I thought to myself ‘right, I’m going to learn this thing and become a legend’. Obviously that didn’t happen. What did happen is that I sliced my 13 year old fingers up something rotten. Pro tip: learn on nylon.
The song is so synonymous with Don McLean, you’d have to be absolutely insane to even contemplate covering it. It’d be like covering ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ or ‘Billie Jean’.
It’s never going to happen, come on.
