I loved this song as a kid, purely because of the Young Ones.
It was on that, so therefore it was good. Nearly forty years later, I don’t think my stance has changed on this.
The song, though…it’s pure circus. Which is troubling. Ordinarily, if you hear fairground music it means that somebody nearby is about to get murdered. I don’t know why, just that’s what happens.
The subject matter is all very clever and if you’re not paying attention you might not get it. Which to me is absolute gold. There are people out there that probably think this song is actually about a theme park.
I laugh in the face of those fictional people.
